Mediator, workplace investigator and litigation lawyer by trade, Jean-Michel is a fully bilingual Ottawa native who was called to the Ontario and B.C. bars in 2013. Over the past decade, he has accumulated a wealth of experience litigating insurance, commercial, employment and construction disputes across Canada, leading to the launch of Fréchette Mediation in January 2021.
Jean-Michel is sensitive to clients’ concerns and takes the time to establish a connection. He is quick to appreciate the circumstances of each case, which enables him to come up with efficient and cost-effective solutions to satisfy clients’ expectations.
As a litigator with nearly 10 years of experience representing plaintiffs and defendants in civil litigation, insurance, commercial, employment and construction disputes, he understands litigants’ concerns and what is weighing on the minds of those involved.
Jean-Michel has successfully represented clients before provincial courts across the country, the Federal Court, the B.C. Court of Appeal and administrative tribunals.
Jean-Michel's experience and approach have served him well as a workplace investigator. His active listening skills and ability to appreciate large amounts of information have been invaluable in conducting complex workplace investigations involving harassment, sexual harassment and toxic workplace environments.
Jean-Michel has had privilege of assisting private companies, school boards, sporting organizations and non-profit corporations with their workplace investigations and does not shy away when required to make difficult findings of fact or assess credibility.
Jean-Michel is passionate about soccer, tennis, and more recently, golf. He loves being outdoors with his two children and his better half, traveling, and enjoying a well-cooked meal. Having spent his teenage years in Kingston, Jamaica, Jean-Michel brings a thoughtful and open-minded approach to his cases. Soft on the people, hard on the issues.
Marc is a retired Peace Officer with over 25 years of experience in investigations. Over the span of his career with the RCMP as well as various International Organizations, he specialized in Sensitive Investigations, notably War Crimes, Genocide and Crimes Against Humanity cases, as well as Oversight Investigations, where he both conducted and oversaw investigations into allegations of possible misconduct by staff members of International Organizations, including the United Nations and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe. He brings a wealth of experience to Frechette Mediation to assist in workplace investigations.
Fully bilingual and a trained workplace mediator, Marc always strives to conduct his investigations with empathy for all involved, taking a humanistic, client-based approach to his interviews and his interactions with clients. He emphasizes rapport building and always strives to complete clear, concise, evidence-based investigations in an efficient and cost-effective manner. His decades of experience in workplace investigations, as well as interviewing, has led him to appreciate the uniqueness of every case as well as every individual who provides information throughout these, at times, difficult processes.
Marc is a trained instructor in interviewing methodologies and is a certified instructor for issues relating to harassment in the workplace. Most recently, Marc operated as an instructor, mentor and capacity builder on behalf of Interpol, training foreign police forces on methodologies relating to interviewing victims of kidnappings, while promoting gender-based policies within the various police institutions.
A former Director and Chief Compliance Officer in the private sector, Marc is also keenly aware of the differences between private and public sector needs and brings this experience with him to Frechette Mediation. He looks forward to serving the needs of Frechette Mediation's clients moving forward.
Marc is an avid tennis player, chess player and rower. He enjoys sharing these activities with his friends and two grown children. Having lived in well over a dozen countries in his lifetime, Marc bring an open-minded approach to his investigations, fully cognisant of the fact that no one size fits all approach can be implemented in this line of work.
